What Acetylsalicylic acid-Richter is and what it is used for
This medicine contains the active substance acetylsalicylic acid and belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs with properties to reduce pain, fever and inflammation.
It is indicated for:
- symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate pain, headache, muscle pain, rheumatic pain in and around the joints, acute pain located along the path of a nerve, toothache and menstrual pain;
- symptomatic treatment of fever;
How to take Acetylsalicylic acid-Richter
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Administration:
- Adults: 500 mg acetylsalicylic acid (one tablet Acetylsalicylic acid-Richter 500 mg) repeating the dose as needed at 4-hour intervals.
The maximum daily dose is 4 g acetylsalicylic acid (8 tablets Acetylsalicylic acid-Richter 500 mg).
- Adolescents over 16 years of age: 250 mg acetylsalicylic acid, repeating the dose as needed at 4-8-hour intervals.
- Children and adolescents under 16 years of age: the use of acetylsalicylic acid is not recommended in children and adolescents under 16 years of age.
Take the tablets after meals, with plenty of liquid.
Duration of treatment
Do not use this medicine for more than 3-5 days without consulting a doctor.
If you take more Acetylsalicylic acid-Richter than you should: symptoms of overdose may include rapid breathing, excessive sweating, nausea and vomiting. In case of a more severe overdose you may experience fever, dizziness, heart rhythm disturbances, ringing in the ears, confusion, convulsions and coma. Dizziness and ringing in the ears, especially in children and the elderly, may indicate serious poisoning. Please contact your doctor immediately if you have taken too much of this medicine. Your doctor will decide what measures to take depending on the severity of the overdose.
If you forget to take Acetylsalicylic acid-Richter: do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. Continue to take the medicine as mentioned in this leaflet or as your doctor has prescribed.

Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor immediately if any of the following serious, life-threatening side effects occur:
● swelling of the face, tongue, throat, difficulty swallowing and breathing, wheezing, skin rash, fainting (severe allergic reactions: angioedema (rare), anaphylactic shock (very rare));
● bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract, for example, vomiting blood, traces of blood in the stool or black stools (rare);
● bleeding in the brain with paralysis, speech disorders, especially in patients with high and uncontrolled blood pressure and concomitant administration of anticoagulant medicines (very rare);
● severe skin reactions (very rare);
● severe stomach pain caused by perforation of the ulcer (very rare).
Other reported side effects:
Blood disorders:
- anemia and iron deficiency anemia (due to small bleedings in the stomach and intestines) which manifest as fatigue, pale skin, dizziness and changes in laboratory test results;
- destruction of red blood cells (hemolysis), anemia due to destruction of red blood cells (hemolytic anemia) in patients with severe deficiency of the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase.
Immune system disorders:
- bronchial asthma, mild to moderate allergic reactions in the form of skin rashes, hives, fluid retention in the body (edema), itching, inflammation of the nasal mucosa (rhinitis), nasal congestion, cardiorespiratory failure.
Metabolism disorders:
- isolated cases of low blood sugar levels.
Nervous system disorders:
- dizziness;
- ringing in the ears.
Blood vessel disorders:
- bleeding, bleeding during and after surgery;
- bruising.
Respiratory disorders:
- nosebleeds.
Gastrointestinal disorders:
- common: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and minor bleeding in the stomach and intestines;
- bleeding gums;
- indigestion, stomach and intestinal pain, abdominal pain, rarely inflammation and ulcers in the stomach and intestines, which may develop into complications such as bleeding and perforation.
Liver and biliary disorders:
- very rarely, impaired liver function with increased blood levels of liver enzymes
(transaminases).
Kidney and urinary tract disorders:
- blood in the urine;
- impaired kidney function (renal failure, acute renal failure).
Additional adverse reactions in children and adolescents
In children and adolescents with viral infections, with or without fever, who were given acetylsalicylic acid, Reye's syndrome (serious liver and brain damage) has been reported.
